National Injury Query System

Creator: Injury Prevention Research Unit, University of Otago

Geography: Australasia, New Zealand

Categories: Injuries

There are two parts to NIQS. The Fatal Mortality Query enables you to determine the number of injury deaths in New Zealand based on your selection of years, mechanism/cause, manner/intent, age group, and gender. The Non-Fatal Injury Query allows you to do the same for injuries that result in admission to public hospitals in New Zealand. The vast majority of injured people requiring inpatient treatment in the acute phase are admitted to public hospitals. These data provide a reasonable indication of serious injury in New Zealand.
