Health minister eyes changes to how Alberta doctors are paid
Health Minister and Deputy Premier Sarah Hoffman addressed a packed room and large online audience of health leaders Monday at the IHE / O’Brien Institute Policy Forum - Physicians as Stewards of Public Resources - saying Alberta's system for paying doctors is overly expensive and outdated.
“Alberta’s system for paying doctors is overly expensive, outdated and prevents the health system from making necessary reforms, Health Minister Sarah Hoffman said Monday.
Speaking to a group of health leaders in Edmonton, Hoffman said urgent changes to physician pay models are needed to both improve the quality of care offered patients and to help the government deal with a financial crisis.”
