IHE Announces Dr. Christopher McCabe as New Executive Director and CEO
The Institute of Health Economics announced today that its Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Christopher McCabe as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer effective July 1st, 2017.
“Since its formation, the IHE has grown from a small research team to a global leader in health economics and health technology assessment,” said Dr. D. Lorne Tyrrell, Chair of the Institute of Health Economics, and Professor and Director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology at the University of Alberta. “Dr. Christopher McCabe, former Research Director and Capital Health Endowed Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Alberta Hospital, and founder and leader of the McCabe Research Group, is an internationally recognized health economist, and a long-time partner and friend of the IHE. He is fiercely committed to the organization’s success and will provide leadership and strategic vision to propel it forward for years to come.”

Over the last 6 years, Dr. Christopher McCabe has assumed the role of Capital Health Endowed Research Chair at the University of Alberta. During this time he has also led PACEOMICS and the Precision Medicine Policy Network as Principal Investigator. In addition to his extensive academic career, Dr. McCabe has acted as a consultant for public and private sector organizations in Europe, North America, and Australia, most notably with NICE in the United Kingdom, with whom he had various roles between 2003 and 2011.
Dr. McCabe received his PhD in Health Economics at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and monographs. He has also held Chairs in Health Economics at the Universities of Leeds, Warwick, and Sheffield. He continues to hold a Visiting Chair position at the University of Leeds.
Dr. McCabe will continue as the Capital Health Endowed Research Chair at the University of Alberta and Principal Investigator on PACEOMICS and the Precision Medicine Policy Network until he assumes his new position with the IHE as CEO on July 1st, 2017.

Current CEO and Executive Director Dr. Egon Jonsson will be assuming a position with the University of Alberta on July 1st, 2017.
