Susan Armijo-Olivo is a Principal Research Lead at the IHE. Susan possesses a BSc in Physical therapy (PT) from the Pontifical University Catholic of Chile (1999), a MSc PT (2005) and a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences (2010) from the University of Alberta. She is currently an adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta. Her major field of research is diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of patients with musculoskeletal pain along with physical therapy evidence based practice, knowledge synthesis and knowledge translation in health research areas.
Susan is interested in optimizing and validating methods used to synthesize research, and to conduct high-quality research particularly in the area of allied health professions. Her post-doctoral work consisted of a large meta-epidemiological project which focused on identifying the methodological factors related to the magnitude of treatment effect estimates in physical therapy trials. This research is critical for health care and decision-making as it will help to disseminate evidence in a useful and understandable way for end-users such as patients, health care clinicians, and policy makers.
